Concerned Theatre Japan: The Graphic Art of Japanese Theatre, 1960-1980 is an exhibition of seventy-three Japanese theatre posters from two seminal decades in the development of modern Japanese culture. The exhibition uses posters to gain insight, not only into the theatre itself, but into the underlying preoccupations of the Japanese people in the postwar period. Focusing on contemporary graphic art, it demonstrates how Japanese designers of this period participated in the international avant-garde, addressing universal concerns from the perspective of a newly reclaimed sense of their own cultural particularity.
In addition to the website, a CD-ROM and book were created for this exhibition.
