Abstract:

Becoming the Buddha in L.A. chronicles and explores growing religious diversity in the United States with a focus on Buddhism. At the same time, the program offers an overview of the origins of Buddhist traditions, revealing the historical and cultural context from which it has risen. The program emphasizes the diversity and change within Buddhism and yet shows the rituals, values, and visions that have remained at the heart of its tradition for centuries.
