Abstract:

This twelve-minute video highlights an important collection of nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock prints by these two celebrated artists. The prints depict themes of landscape, travel, and daily life. Brief descriptions of the artists' lives are also included. Produced in conjunction with an exhibition held at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, Sept. 23, 1998-Nov. 15 (Hokusai) and Nov. 21-Jan. 17, 1999 (Hiroshige).
