Abstract:

Japanese farmers face a variety of problems as they face an increasingly globalized economy. This program visits a family-run rice and vegetable farm, where members subsidize their income by working at a nearby factory sponsored by the government. A timber-yard manager discusses efforts under way to protect Japan's forests.
