Abstract:

Long unavailable outside of North Korea, Pulgasari is now free to terrorize home video audiences worldwide. In the 14th century, a jailed blacksmith rebels against the country's tyrannical ruler by creating a small doll of the mythical monster Pulgasari. When his daughter bleeds on the doll, it comes to life and grows at an alarming rate, devouring every piece of iron it can find along the way. At first the giant monster helps the oppressed peasants defeat the tyrant, but then his appetite makes him turn against his human allies, causing massive destruction. A must for fans of "guys-in-rubber-suits" monster flicks, made with the help of some Toho regulars. One of the directors was actually a South Korean political prisoner, working against his will for the North Korean film industry.
