Abstract:

Cheng Shi-Zheng’s internationally acclaimed production of the epic Chinese opera dazzled the audience when it was originally performed and millions more when it was broadcast on PBS. Abridged from the 16th century masterpiece by Tang Xianzu, the production incorporates singing, dancing, acting, acrobatics, stilt walking, puppetry, pageantry, and martial arts to tell the romantic story of a woman who returns from the dead to reunite with her true love. Produced by the Lincoln Center Festival of New York and the Festival d’Automne a Paris. Narrated by Robert Powell. Includes a “making of” documentary.
