Abstract:

"Although women bear the brunt of farming and household chores in Nepal, they have very little access to real property, savings, and credit. But now, in villages throughout the country, women are beginning to improve their lot with the help of microcredit projects that encourage cash savings and provide livelihood skills training and credit. Credit Where It's Due illustrates how three rural Nepali women have taken control of their lives through microenterprise projects. Aside from economic and financial benefits, the women are aware of a new sense of unity and power."
