Abstract:

Describes the two main types of Indian music, the Karnatic of the south and the Hindustani of the north, dating back more than three thousand years. Demonstrates the use of a wide variety of simple and complex instruments. Points out several ways in which Indian music differs from Western music. Includes a traditional Indian dance showing the importance of the art of gesture.
