Abstract:

This dynamic computer-simulated exploration of a three-dimensional mandala represents a unique colaboration between ancient traditions and state-of-the-art computer graphics technology. Pema Losang Chogyen, a monk from Namgyal Monastery, and researchers at Cornell University's program of Computer Grphics worked for more than two years to produce this unique video. The video demonstrates the relationshipt between the two-dimensional mandala (here a sand mandala of Yamantaka) and a lesser known three-dimensional form visualized by Tibetan yogis. The video animation takes viewers through the sequence of visualization, presenting a visual introduction to Tibetan mandalas.
