Abstract:

The exhibition The Golden Age of Chinese Archaeology: Celebrated Discoveries from the People's Republic of China illustrates the achievements of Chinese culture from 5000 BCE to the tenth century CE (the neolithic through early imperial periods), focusing on important archaeological discoveries of the last forty years. Many of the objects were found in tombs and had been created for use during the lifetime of the deceased as well as for the afterlife. Examples of sculpture, ritual implements, decorative arts, jade burial suits, and monumental bronzes are seen in the context of archival and current film footage. The program is narrated by Amy Tan, with additional commentary provided by several specialists.
