Abstract:

This CD-ROM contatins more than 1,100 rare photographs taken or collected by Dutch people who lived in Japan during the first decennia of the existence of photography. The photographs, containing landscapes, city views, portraits and happenings (i.e., executions), give an accurate impression of the changing Japan between the years 1859 and 1875.
