Abstract:

"Produced by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers, NAGASAKI JOURNEY portrays the aftermath of the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki from both an American and Japanese perspective. We hear the moving personal stories of two Japanese survivors and the eyewitness recollections of U.S. Marines who occupied the city shortly after the end of the war. At first suspicious and curious, both sides discovered their common humanity and transcended wartime stereotypes, despite the enormous tragedy. Never-before-seen color footage shot during the occupation by Marine cinematographers, as well as striking black and white still photos taken the day after the blast by Japanese army photographer Yosuke Yamahata, illustrate the film. Yamahata's complete, historic photographic record, with commentary, is now available in a 128 page book."
