Abstract:

"Since the institution of the one-child-per-family policy in 1979, the Chinese preschool has taken on a critical role in Chinese society. This program, filmed on location in a preschool in the city of Guangzhou, China, documents a typical day of four kindergarten children. The songs the children sing, the games they play, and the various classroom activities allow us to look at modern Chinese culture and beliefs. Interviews with parents, teachers and school administrators illustrate the concerns and efforts to instill the cultural values and traditions that characterize China. The program was produced in 1992 by the Nebraska ETV Network."
