Abstract:

"Footage from this Academy Award-winning film has been repeatedly borrowed by other documentary filmmakers as an authentic record of the attack on Pearl Harbor. In truth, there were few cameras present during the event and these carefully composed scenes of sailors running, falling, and firing weapons were filmed with actors. However, because the authentic and staged events are blended together so skillfully, the film is able to create a powerful impact. It stands as almost a textbook example of the use of edited images to involve and overwhelm an audience." Produced by the U.S. Navy.
